INFORMATION for Parade Participants

On behalf of the organizing Mardi Gras Committee, THANK YOU for your interest in participating in this year’s parade in Talladega.  Below is some information you will find helpful concerning schedule, location, parade route, and how to purchase moon pies and beads beforehand if you wish.

WHEN:  Parade is this Saturday, February 25th.  Rollout is at 11:00 AM.  Line-up starts at 10:00 AM. All participants are encouraged to be lined up and ready to roll at 10:30 A.M.

WHERE: Line-up is in front of Zora Ellis Junior High School, 414 Elm Street, Talladega, AL 35160.

WHO: Anyone who wishes to participate may. All we ask is that you be clever and festive, with a show of Mardi Gras spirit using colorful decoration in preferred purple, gold and green colors when possible. Participants will involve bands, floats, antique cars, “Pets On Parade” along with dozens of Shriner Comedy Units from across Alabama and Georgia.

PARADE ROUTE: The route is the same as years past. Starting at Zora Ellis, the parade heads east down South Street to Asbury Street, which it follows to East Battle Street at Rite Aid. The procession will continue west on East Battle toward Courthouse Square, where it will circle the square before following East Street to South Street then back to Zora Ellis.

BEAD & MOON PIES Available for Purchase: Everyone is, of course, welcome to bring your own throws, including hard candy and small toys, but the Mardi Gras Committee has purchased beads and moon pies, which are available for purchase at cost. You can pre-order by calling the Historic Ritz Theater at 256.315.0000. Complimentary masks and beads to wear will be supplied to members of all participating bands.
